It was confirmed that Park Soon-ae, a candidate for deputy prime minister and education minister, drove intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.251% in 2001.

In addition, the fact that he was sentenced to a fine of 2.5 million won at the time and was not punished as a result is controversial.

Reporter Kim Jae-kyung reports.

Candidate Park Soon-ae for the Minister of Education explained that it was not excessive, saying that the sentence was suspended when a history of drunk driving was revealed in the personnel hearing request.

This is the sentence at the time regarding Park’s drunk driving charges.

It is reported that he was driving in a drunken state with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.251% on a road in Jung-gu, Seoul at 11 pm in December 2001.

The number is more than 8 times the current license suspension standard of 0.03%, and the Transportation Safety Promotion Agency explains that it is a stage in which people cannot understand words and their consciousness is gradually blurred due to physical paralysis.

Although he was in a very serious state of intoxication, Park was not punished as a result.

Dissatisfied with the summary fine of 2.5 million won, he requested a formal trial, but the Seoul Central District Court gave a suspended sentence.

A suspended sentence is a disposition that avoids the sentence of a sentence if there is no accident for a certain period of time.

Traffic accident experts question this, saying it is very unusual.

“It means that the words that the sentence was deferred were taken care of. Then, what is the circumstance that deserves consideration. You have to explain this. We have been working with drunk driving (case) for more than 10 years, but none of our clients received a suspended sentence, and our clients There were no opponents.”

In order to receive a deferment of sentencing, there must be extenuating circumstances such as escorting an emergency patient, experts say, since it is impossible to drive at a blood alcohol concentration of 0.251%, experts say that there is little chance of a sentence suspension.

Suspicions are being raised that candidate Park may have been sentenced to use so-called powerful lawyers, such as those from Jeongwan.

There are also criticisms that the drunk driving history itself is inappropriate as a candidate for the Minister of Education.

Candidate Park’s side said, “I am deeply reflecting, and I will reveal the details at the personnel hearing.”
