New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the strategic partnership between India and ASEAN is based on the historical, geographical and cultural heritage we share. Modi was addressing the 17th ASEAN-India Summit. ‘ASEAN is at the heart of India’s Eastern policy. There are many similarities between the Indo-Pacific perspectives of India and ASEAN, ”he said.
Speaking on the coronavirus epidemic, the Prime Minister jokingly said that this time there will be no ‘family photo’ like in previous years. We want to enhance India-ASEAN relations in all areas. Modi said the meeting was a virtual one but was trying to bridge the gap between us.
The ASEAN members are Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar and Cambodia. India, China, the US, Japan and Australia are non-member partners.
The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister of Vietnam Xuan Phuc.
