The Cargo Solidarity Headquarters (Cargo Solidarity) of the Public Transport Workers’ Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions launched an indefinite general strike at 0 o’clock today (24th).

Cargo Solidarity is holding a general strike ceremony at 10:00am today in all of its 16 regional headquarters across the country.

It has since been announced that it will block the entrances to New Port in Busan, Gwangyang Port in Jeonnam, and Hyundai Steel in Chungcheongnam-do, including the Inland Container Base (ICD) in Uiwang, Gyeonggi-do, which is the logistics base for the metropolitan area.

Five months after the general strike last June 8, the government showed a tougher stance than the last general strike, saying, “We will respond strictly without tolerance to illegal actions,” and is expected to clash ‘strong-to-strong’ ‘ be. inevitable.

The Cargo Workers Union estimated that more than 22,000 people would take part in the strike.

Korea Cargo Solidarity recommends that the security price system be made permanent and that the relevant vehicle models and items be expanded to five items, including steel, automobiles, hazardous materials, feed and grain, and distribution grounds and trunk roads, as well as the existing containers and cement they require

The safe fare system is a system that guarantees a minimum transport fee so that truck drivers do not have to overwork, speed or overload, and fines are imposed on transporters who violate it.

In 2020, the sunset system was introduced for a limited time only for cement and container cargo, and is set to expire at the end of this year.

The government announced a stronger response policy than during the strike in June.

Prime Minister Han Deok-soo said, “We will respond fiercely by taking all measures with zero tolerance for illegal transportation denial or transportation obstruction.”

If the strike is a long one, there is a possibility that they will use powerful cards such as compulsory dissolution through the exercise of public power, an order to start working, and license cancellation in case of non-compliance, which were not attempted during the strike in June.
