At the site where the children were found hanging, experiments were performed with dummies of the same weight as the children. The indictment alleges that scientific and circumstantial evidence ruled out the possibility of murder.

At the same time, both children, aged 14 and 9, were found to have been sexually abused for up to a year. Combined with this, other evidence led to the conclusion that suicide was the result of further torture. Valiya Madhu, Shibu and Kutty Madhu are the accused in the death of the first child.
