Cesar Hernandez as head coach of ‘coach to manager’ women’s volleyball team

The Korea Volleyball Association announced on the 29th that Cesar Hernandez Gonzalez, former coach of the women’s national volleyball team, who is one of the protagonists of the ‘Tokyo quarterfinals legend’, has been appointed as the next national team coach.

The association said, “Cesar has served as a coach for the Korean national team for the past three years, so he has a good understanding of Korean volleyball and good communication with players.” Cesar will lead the national team from 2022 to 2024.

Coach Cesar said, “I have not forgotten the support and enthusiasm of Korean volleyball fans during the last Tokyo Olympics. I will do my best to challenge the 2024 Paris Olympics, and I will do my best for the development of Korean volleyball.”

Previously, former coach Stefano Lavarini politely declined the association’s request for a contract renewal, saying, “I hope to be active on the European stage.”

Kim Yeon-kyung, the former national team captain, left a congratulatory message on the social networking service (SNS) on the news of César’s appointment as new coach.

Kim Yeon-kyung said, “Congratulations (Cesar’s appointment). I look forward to it again,” he wrote. Director Cesar replied, “Thank you, Eternal Captain.”
