Chess Olympiad in Chennai; Russian occupation hits Moscow | 44th World Chess Olympiad 2022 at Chennai

Chennai: Chennai will host the 44th Chess Olympiad. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday made the official announcement on Twitter. The All India Chess Federation also confirmed this on its official Twitter handle.

Earlier, it was planned to be held in the Russian capital, Moscow. However, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) decided to change the venue after Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.

The All India Chess Federation had earlier submitted a US $ 10 million (approximately Rs 75 crore) guarantee to FIDE. Leading teams from around the world will compete in the competition, which runs from July 26 to August 8.
