The devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria caused huge loss of life. According to Al Jazeera television, the US will help the residents of the Turkey-Syria border area, severely affected by the earthquake, but exclude the possibility of making direct contact with the Syrian government.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price said the US has humanitarian partners in Syria and will provide humanitarian aid through local partners. The US-based Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) has called for the “immediate” lifting of sanctions on Syria so it can provide aid. But Ned Price responded that Washington will not change its policy of cooperation with non-governmental partners to help the Syrian people.
