A case of ‘pulmonary anthrax’ has been confirmed in China. It is a disease with a fatality rate of over 90%. The authorities said, “I am immediately quarantined and treated.” However, following the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), anthrax has also been pierced, raising concerns about the quarantine hole.

According to Chinese media such as the groom’s network on the 10th, the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the previous day, “Pneumonia patients transported from Chengde, Hebei Province were identified as having anthrax.” This patient had a history of contact with cattle and sheep, and four days after showing symptoms, he was taken to Beijing by an ambulance. “The patient is isolated under strict control,” the center said.

Anthrax is transmitted mainly through sick livestock, such as cattle and sheep. 95% of patients show blistering and skin necrosis following skin contact. It is skin anthrax. In addition, eating meat contaminated with anthrax can cause intestinal anthrax and pulmonary anthrax when inhaling droplets or dust containing anthrax. Anthrax was developed as a biological and chemical weapon and was used by the Japanese military during World War II.

In particular, the fatality rate of pulmonary anthrax is known to be about 92%. However, as there is still only one case in this case, the authorities are drawing a line on concerns about additional infections. “Anthrax can be transmitted directly from person to person, but it is not as contagious as the flu or Corona,” the Global Times said. About 5,000 anthrax patients worldwide are diagnosed with anthrax every year.

China is facing the biggest crisis since the Wuhan outbreak last year as the delta-mutant virus, which was introduced from overseas on the 20th of last month, has spread virtually nationwide. The number of new confirmed cases exceeds 100 every day.
