China tightens algorithm-related regulations… ‘Withdrawal’ to manipulation of public opinion

Xinhua News Agency reported that the Chinese government has decided to tighten algorithm-related regulations against the Internet information service industry.

Nine organizations, including China’s National Internet Information Service and Central Propaganda Department, announced on this day a ‘Guidance Opinion on Strengthening the Comprehensive Management of Internet Information Service Algorithms’ to be applied over three years to promote the orderly and sound development of algorithm-related industries.

The comments included calling on Internet information service companies to focus on resolving algorithm security issues and warning that algorithm-related violations and bad practices will be severely punished.

In addition, it will prevent abuses such as interference in public opinion using algorithms, interference with competitors, and infringement of the rights and interests of netizens, and will strictly crack down on violations found during algorithm monitoring and evaluation, and matters reported and verified by netizens. That’s it.
