[Beijing, 27th Reuters]–The Chinese government announced on the 26th regulations on the construction of skyscrapers in relatively small cities. Part of the administrative crackdown on boxes of local governments.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Construction, special approval is required for cities with a population of 3 million or less to build buildings with a height of 150 meters or more. Construction of buildings with a height of 250 meters or more is prohibited even in cities with a larger population. The current rule of up to 500 meters has been tightened.

Officials who approve construction plans that violate the new regulations will be punished.

Authorities believe that skyscrapers will make effective use of land, but there are growing concerns that building construction is progressing in rural areas without considering practicality and safety.

This year, a 71-story building 356 meters above the ground shook repeatedly in the center of Shenzhen, raising safety concerns. As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the cause of the shaking was that the mast with a height of 50 meters on the roof was shaken by the wind.

Then in July, the height of the building was limited to 500 meters nationwide.
