The lockdown is being extended in the Chinese capital, Beijing, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to Chinese media on the 28th, Beijing health authorities have designated two areas (about 3 km2) in Chaoyang District as additional temporary management and control zones starting this morning and strictly control the movement of residents.

On that day, the Chinese authorities installed iron fences at the entrances to apartment complexes in the administrative control zone and mobilized police and security personnel to control movement.

The day before, two Tongzhou District and one Fengtai District were designated as administrative control zones.

Residents of the area are not allowed to leave the apartment complex, and office workers are forced to work from home.

In addition, karaoke rooms, PC rooms, restaurants, movie theaters, and libraries will be closed.

However, shops, supermarkets, and hospitals that sell basic daily necessities can operate normally.

Beijing has also decided to temporarily suspend classes at elementary, middle and high schools.

The blockade of Jinsong and Panjiayuan, Beijing’s first administrative and controlled zones, is expected to continue for the time being.
