China’s crashed airliner’s second black box ‘still under search’

Chinese authorities are making every effort to find an additional black box for the crashed Eastern Airlines flight, but it is said that they have not yet been able to find it. Among these, some state-run media falsely reported that they had found the second black box.

On the morning of the 25th, Chinese Minhangwang and others reported that they had found an unrecovered FDR among the two black boxes of the passenger plane.

After that, the state-run China Central (CC) TV also reported the related news as breaking news.

However, when the state-run Xinhua News Agency confirmed with the Central Countermeasures Headquarters, it was revealed that the second black box had not yet been found.

The Civil Air Network, which was first reported, corrected the report that the second black box collection report was false and issued an apology.

This is evidence that the authorities regard the collection of the second black box, which is the key to the cause of the accident, as an important matter.

Earlier, on the 23rd, the reconnaissance team found the Control Room Recording System (CVR), one of the two black boxes on the passenger plane.

The authorities said, “The exterior of the black box (CVR) was severely damaged and the storage device was also damaged to some extent, but it is in relatively intact condition.”

Authorities are focusing on investigating the cause of the accident by moving the recovered black box to Beijing.

Since it usually takes several months to decipher the black box, the work to determine the cause of this accident is expected to be prolonged.

At a press conference on the 25th, Director Mao Yanpeng of the Civil Aviation Bureau’s Accident Investigation Center said, “After the CVR arrived at the accident investigation center laboratory, the recovery and data download work is in progress.” said.

Eastern Airlines Flight MU5735, which departed from Changshui Airport in Kunming, Yunnan Province, at 1:15 pm on the 21st, crashed over Wuzhou while flying to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The plane, with a total of 132 people on board, including 123 passengers and 9 crew members, was scheduled to arrive in Guangzhou at 3:07 pm as scheduled.
