China’s trade activities broadly stable

China’s trade activities were generally stable in 2022 and made positive contributions to social stability, a Ministry of Commerce official said Thursday at a press conference organized by the State Council Press Office.

According to him, the consumer market was stable, with a total of 44 trillion yuan in retail sales, equal to the level of 2021. Foreign trade was stronger than forecast. Imports and exports of goods reached 42.1 trillion yuan, up 7.7%. The use of foreign investment maintained its growth, with the value realized at 1.2 trillion yuan, up 6.3% based on comparable data. Investments abroad have grown steadily. Non-financial direct reached 85.94 billion yuan, up 7.2%. Bilateral and multilateral cooperations have developed, economic and commercial relations are increasingly strengthened by the diplomacy of the head of state.

This year is the beginning of the comprehensive implementation of the spirit of the 20th Party Congress. The Ministry of Commerce will make efforts to recover and boost consumption, promote foreign trade in terms of scale and structure, attract and use investments, promote high-level openness.
