Chinese Doctor Brings Hope to Botswana

In a heartwarming story of compassion and expertise, Chinese doctor Zhang Tao, also known as Taylor Zhang, has become a beacon of hope for the people of Botswana. Zhang, an experienced obstetrician-gynecologist from Fujian Province, was sent to Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, as part of the Chinese medical team in 2012.
Over the course of three years, Zhang performed countless surgeries, aiming to bring innovative solutions to the local population. His dedication and skill left a lasting impression on the people he treated.
Upon completing his term in 2015, Zhang made a decision that surprised many. Instead of returning to his home country, he chose to stay in Botswana with his family. His motivation was simple: to continue sharing his knowledge and experience with the local community.
Patients who have been fortunate enough to receive treatment from Dr. Zhang have nothing but praise for him. One patient, Tumi Ontumetse, highlighted Zhang’s patience and commitment to providing the best care possible. “He is a very good doctor. He is very patient. If you call me anytime, he will tell you what to do and what the problem is,” Ontumetse expressed.
Another patient, Gawon Moremi, shared her journey with Dr. Zhang starting from 2015. Initially seeking treatment for a hormonal imbalance, Moremi later became pregnant with her third child. Throughout her pregnancy, she relied on Dr. Zhang’s expertise and guidance.
Dr. Zhang’s impact on the medical field in Botswana has not gone unnoticed. As a remarkable example of international collaboration and selflessness, his story serves as an inspiration to doctors and communities alike.

Chinese doctor Taylor Zhang’s name is Zhang Tao (張濤). He is from Fujian Province and an experienced obstetrician-gynecologist.
He was sent to Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, as the 13th member of the Chinese medical team in 2012.
[테일러장, 중국인 의사] “I worked as a member of the Chinese medical team for three years and performed many surgeries. In Botswana, I hoped that this innovative surgery would provide a new opportunity (for local people).”
In 2015, after completing his three-year term, he decided to stay in Botswana with his family as he wanted to share more of his expertise and experience in China with the local people.
[투미 온투멧세, 환자] “I was suffering from a complication, and another doctor who was treating me recommended him, so I came here. He is a very good doctor. He is very patient. If you call me anytime, he will tell you what to do and what the problem is.”
[가원 모레미, 환자] “I started receiving treatment from Dr. Taylor in 2015. The first problem was a hormonal imbalance. Then, I became pregnant in 2017. This time, I came to see Dr. Taylor when I was pregnant with my third child.”
