Prior to the finals, Choi Dong-yeol boldly stated his intention to breach the 26-second mark. Undoubtedly, he stayed true to his words and delivered an exemplary performance.

Taking home the gold was Qin Haiyang from China with an impressive time of 26.35 seconds, while the silver medal went to Sun Jiajun, another Chinese swimmer, finishing in 26.92 seconds.

Choi Dong-yeol’s success at the Hangzhou Asian Games extended beyond the men’s 50m breaststroke event. He secured a total of four medals, including a silver in the men’s 400m medley relay and a bronze in both the 400m mixed medley relay and the men’s 100m breaststroke.

Furthermore, Choi Dong-yeol demonstrated his exceptional capabilities by setting new Korean records in both the men’s 50m and 100m breaststroke events, with an impressive time of 59.28 seconds in the latter.

Choi Dong-yeol won a bronze medal by hitting the touch pad in 26.93 seconds in the men’s 50m breaststroke final at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games Swimming Management held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center swimming pool in Zhejiang, China, on the 29th.

26.93 seconds is a new Korean record, beating Choi Dong-yeol’s preliminary record (27.06 seconds) by 0.13 seconds.

Choi Dong-yeol also enjoyed the joy of becoming the first Korean athlete to reach the podium in the men’s 50m breaststroke event at the Asian Games.
