“Choose Koreans to kill robbers”… Vietnam government sentences 30-year-old Korean to death

A man in his 30s has been sentenced to death in Vietnam for robbery and murder of fellow Koreans.

According to local media VN Express on the 29th, the Ho Chi Minh court sentenced a 32-year-old Korean man to the death penalty and 14 years in prison, respectively, for murder and robbery the day before.

Mr. A entered Vietnam in October 2019 and worked as an employee at an entertainment pub in District 5 of Ho Chi Minh City.

In December of that year, Mr. A saw a Korean family walking in a nearby park and planned the crime. A broke into the victim’s house, wielded a knife at four family members, and stole VND5 million (260,000 won) in cash and a smartphone.

In the process, the couple and eldest daughter were stabbed with a knife and seriously injured, and the wife’s condition deteriorated and died.

After the robbery, Mr. A, who stole a vehicle and ran to his dormitory, fled by stealing up to US$2,000 (2.44 million won) from a friend. After that, Mr. A, who was fleeing from her residence to her residence, was caught by the police four days later.

Public security authorities demanded strong punishment, saying “the crime was vicious and attempted to kill two or more people.” Person A said in court that she was sorry to the victim’s family and was reflecting on her crimes.
