Coach João Burse is fired from Vitória after defeat by CSA

End of the line for coach João Burse in Vitória. The coach couldn’t resist the 3-1 defeat by the CSA this Sunday (5) and was dismissed from the red-black team.

In the official statement, the club informed that the assistant Ricardo Amadeu will be the interim coach in the dispute of the Campeonato Baiano and Copa do Nordeste. In addition to Burse, assistant Marcos Carvalho also leaves Leão. Amadeu already debuts against Atlético de Alagoinhas, Wednesday (8), at 19:15, for the state, away from home.

João Burse arrived at Toca do Leão in June last year, to replace Fabiano Soares. When he took over, Vitória was in 16th place in the C Series, five points behind the G8. The team managed to make a start in the final rounds, qualified for the second phase of the competition and won a place in the 2023 Série B.

After being the main highlight of the team in 2022, Burse was kept for this season. The team accomplished its first objective of the year, beating Cordino and Jacuipense and securing itself in the group stage of the Copa do Nordeste. The performances in these matches, however, did not please.

In the following games, the team continued to play poorly and accumulated a series of bad results. Vitória drew with Bahia de Feira (1×1), was thrashed by Itabuna in Barradão (4×1) and lost to Juazeirense (3×1), all by Baianão. Then, he was in the 1×1 with Santa Cruz for the Northeast Cup, at home.

The series of frustrating results ended with a 3-0 victory over Doce Mel, in Barradão. Soon after, the red-black team lost again, by 1-0, in the classic against Bahia, in Fonte Nova. Burse survived with the 2-0 victory over Jacobinense, but this Sunday’s defeat in Maceió meant the end of the coach’s second spell at the club.

In all, there were 24 matches, with 11 wins, eight draws and five defeats. Detail is that, of the defeats, only one happened during the campaign in Série C – 5×1 for Figueirense. The other four were at the beginning of the year. The coach leaves Leão with 57% success rate. In the cut of 2023 alone, this index drops to 47%, in four wins, two draws and four defeats.
