It was found that not a single expert in the field of real estate and transportation was included in the selection of the 20th presidential transition committee member. As President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol won the election on the banner of supplying more than 2.5 million homes and normalizing the real estate market, the real estate industry is not hiding its embarrassment.

At the company briefing in Yeouido on the morning of the 17th, spokesperson Kim Eun-hye announced that KAIST Professor Lee Chang-yang (secretary), Dongduk Women’s University Professor Wang Yun-jong, former SK Innovation Group President Yoo Woong-hwan, and Kosan Tide Institute CEO were appointed as members of the Economic Subcommittee 2nd subcommittee in Yeouido on the morning of the 17th.

The members of the Economics Division 2 were elected on the same day, and are experts from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, executives of large corporations, and experienced entrepreneurs. Although he has expertise in industry and commerce, he is far from real estate. In general, Economics Division 1 deals with macroeconomic, financial, and tax policies, and Economics Division 2 is in charge of industrial, energy and trade policies. In the past, real estate policy was handled by the 2nd Division in the Acquisition Committee.

In the public opinion, real estate experts such as former Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Kyung-hwan, who led the real estate policy initiative of President-elect Yoon, former 1st Vice Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs Jeong Chang-soo, former lawmaker Kim Hyun-ah, and Konkuk University professor Shim Gyo-eon were expected as candidates for the transition committee. Even though the number of candidates was small, not even one real estate expert was included among the 24 acquisition committee members.

Not only the real estate industry, but also government agencies such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport are a bit perplexed. This is because President-elect Yoon has been evaluated as winning this election under the banner of ‘top the real estate market’ and made extensive real estate promises such as supply of 2.5 million housing units, deregulation of reconstruction, reform of the real estate tax system, and reform of the subscription system. There is a lot of work to be done, but it has become a structure in which smooth business processing is not easy.

An official from the National Assembly said, “The working group at the level of the head of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will work to materialize the promises, but without a transition committee member, their authority will be limited.”
