Completed 15 billion won investment contract with Kakao Humanscape

Kakao became the largest shareholder of Humanscape, a medical big data company.

According to Kakao on the 23rd, it signed a contract to invest in Humanscape. Kakao is said to have acquired a 20% stake in Humanscape by purchasing 15 billion won worth of new stock. Some stocks were also sold. Although it is the largest shareholder, it does not exercise its management rights. A Kakao official said, “We have made a minority equity investment for technical cooperation.”

Humanscape is operating a blockchain-based data platform ‘Rare Note’. Rare Note is a service that receives genomic information from patients and allows them to record their health status continuously. Rare Note applies blockchain technology to maintain the original information, while all information is transparently disclosed to maintain security.

Kakao plans to expand its medical big data business in the future based on the Humanscape technology that developed Rare Note. An industry official said, “Information technology (IT) companies have excellent medical big data-based healthcare business capabilities because they know how to handle data well.” is expected to expand,” he said.
