Constant fatigue, constant cough; Viral fever should be treated early

Kannur: Viral fever and cough is spreading in the state. Most people suffer from fever, cough and fatigue. The fever does not go away. The cough can last for two to four weeks.

There has been a huge increase in the number of people seeking treatment at the OP with typical viral flu symptoms. So far in September, 2,44,984 people have sought treatment for fever in the state. Most of the patients are in Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod districts. In the ten days from the 12th to the 21st, 1,55,938 people sought treatment. Only a small percentage of patients require inpatient treatment.

People with respiratory problems such as asthma often have a prolonged cough and phlegm when they catch a cold. However, even in those who do not have these problems, the cough continues even after the fever subsides.

In addition to the flu virus, various viruses such as respiratory syncytial virus and adenovirus also cause fever. Many of these can lead to a chronic cough when they cause swelling in the airways. Chronic cough is caused by bronchitis, pharyngitis and bronchiolitis. Doctors also say there is nothing wrong with X-rays and blood tests.

The weather is bad too

Health experts say the main reason for the current flu is climate change. A hot day with rain at night and a cold morning can increase the risk of catching a cold.

With the lifting of all covid restrictions, most people have abandoned the face covering altogether. It is estimated that this also causes the spread of the disease.

Seek appropriate treatment

Self-medication should be avoided. Treatment should be sought early because of the possibility of secondary bacterial infection. Steaming is good.

It is seen that the cough lasts for a long time in those who have come to Covid. It should be studied whether cough, edema and phlegm are more common among them. There is a difference in the health status of people after covid.

Covid can lead to structural changes in the lungs. Therefore, it is necessary to study whether the cough persists in such people.
