Coupang invites Tottenham to Korea… “Play 2 games in Coupang Play series”

This July, Tottenham Hotspur FC (hereinafter referred to as Tottenham) will visit Korea at the invitation of Coupang and Peach International and participate in the ‘Coupang Play Series’ match. The last time Tottenham visited Korea to play a game in Korea was in 2005.

Coupang decided to organize this Korean tour in partnership with Tottenham’s long-time partner, Peach International, in order to provide an opportunity for Tottenham, which is loved by Korean soccer fans, to communicate with domestic fans. Tottenham Hotspur plans to play two matches in the Coupang Play series planned by Coupang Play, and details about the game will be announced later.

For Tottenham, Korea has a special meaning. This is because Son Heung-min and Cho So-hyun, who are loved by the people, both belong to the Tottenham club. The two players are captains of the Korea men’s and women’s national soccer teams, respectively.

In particular, Son Heung-min has grown into a world-class player since joining Tottenham in 2015, and was selected as the ‘Asia’s Best Soccer Player’ for the fifth consecutive year. Heung-Min Son is gaining popularity in his home country thanks to his great performances at Tottenham.

Currently, there are four official Tottenham fan clubs in Korea: Korea Spurs, Daegu Spurs, Gangwon-do Spurs, and Boryeong Spurs, and the Tottenham club plans to actively communicate with fans during their visit to Korea.

Kim Seong-han, general director of Coupang Play, said, “Coupang is pleased to provide the opportunity for domestic fans to watch the Tottenham game in person by inviting the Tottenham club, which is currently receiving attention and love from the whole nation, to Korea with Peach International.” We are grateful that Tottenham Hotspur accepted Coupang’s invitation, and we will fully show Tottenham’s wonderful side through Coupang Play during the Korean tour in July.”

Tottenham Hotspur club president Daniel Levy said, “I am happy to finally resume the tour after a difficult time. Going on an overseas tour during the pre-season is very important in preparing for the upcoming season,” he said.

President Levy also said, “It is true that I had delayed my visit to Korea too much. Many Korean fans are cheering for Tottenham, and I am well aware that there were many fans who came to London to watch Tottenham’s game. AIA and Fitch provided the opportunity to visit Korea. I would like to express my gratitude to International and Coupang.”

Son Heung-min said, “I am very excited to visit my home country with my Tottenham teammates this summer. Most of my teammates have not been to Korea yet, but I am not sure how to react to the enthusiasm of Korean fans and the heat of cheering seats that will fill the stadium during the game. I am really looking forward to it,” he said.

Coupang Play has been introducing various sports contents since the service was launched in December 2020. In particular, it has established itself as Korea’s representative live soccer digital platform. Coupang Play digitally broadcasts the matches of four teams: Heung-Min Son (Tottenham Hotspur FC), Kang-In Lee (Real Mallorca), Ui-Jo Hwang (FC Girondaeng de Bordeaux), and Min-Jae Kim (Fenerbahce SK), representative overseas players. In addition, based on the official partnership with the Korea Football Association signed in November last year, it will support the national team until August 2025 and contribute to the development of Korean football.
