Court granted full freedom to former PDVSA managers

Aryenis Torrealba and Alfredo Chirinos, were arrested after denouncing cases of corruption in the state oil company

The 15th Court of First Instance in function of execution of the Criminal Judicial Circuit of the Metropolitan Area of ​​Caracas, on March 30, 2023, issued the release ticket for Aryenis Torrealba and Alfredo Chirinos, former employees of Petróleos de Venezuela, SA (PDVSA). .

“In response to the reiterated jurisprudence emanating from the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice” full freedom was granted to both former managers of the oil company after serving five years in prison, accused of “terrorism” after denouncing corruption.

The crime for which they were accused was “reservation of disclosure or provision of data and information.”

Both defendants were granted house arrest in 2021.

Aryenis Torrealba and Alfredo Chirinos, managers of the PDVSA trade and supply area, were sentenced to five years in prison, a year after being arrested on accusations of leaking to the United States government, which in 2019 increased sanctions against the state oil company to pressure the removal of Nicolás Maduro from power.
