Covid 19 | Kovid death grant: Ernakulam Collector says application process should be expedited

Kochi: District Collector Jafar Malik has directed the tehsildars and village officers to expedite the process of applying for ex-gratia financial assistance to the next of kin of those killed due to Kovid 19. Those who are yet to apply for the Ex-Gracia grant should go to the nearest Akshaya Kendra and apply, the Collector said. The Collector said that the village officers would provide all possible assistance.

In Ernakulam district, 6198 people died due to Kovid. Of these, only 3900 applications were received for Ex-Gracia funding. The district collector said the district administration was trying to get 100 per cent people to apply for the Ex-Gracia grant within the next two days.

The Collector also directed the village officers to take action with the help of ward members and Asha activists to apply for more. Village officers should provide necessary assistance to those who find it difficult to apply. If there are people who do not need excise funding, they should write to them.

Do not postpone or reject the application due to minor issues in the applications received. No need to wait for Kovid’s death certificate. Village officers check the Kovid death certificate number on the portal and verify that the information is accurate. No need to apply for a Legal Higher Certificate. A copy of the ration card proving the relationship will suffice. Also get to know the heirs with the help of ward members and Asha activists.

The Collector said that with the help of Nehru Youth Center volunteers, Kovid had informed the next of kin of the deceased to apply for ex-gratia funding.

At the meeting, the District Disaster Management Authority decided to set up two centers in the government sector in the district for dialysis for Kovid positive people. District Collector Jafar Malik, who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, directed the health department to take necessary steps in this regard.

District Collector Jafar Malik said Kovid patients in private hospitals with dialysis facilities would be directed to set up special facilities for dialysis.
Hospitals should adhere to the ICMR guideline that Kovid should be tested only if there are symptoms prior to other treatments in hospitals. Discussions will be held with private hospitals in this regard.

The category of districts is determined by the number of Kovid patients admitted to hospitals. Currently Ernakulam district is in B category. Likely to go to District C category. The Collector directed to take necessary steps in the matter of setting up more beds in hospitals.

At present Kovid wards are specially set up in taluk hospitals. Domestic Care Centers (DCCs) will be set up in three municipalities and 10 gram panchayats. The Collector directed the Deputy Director (DDP) of the Panchayat to find centers for this purpose.

The Minister in charge of the district, P.S. The Collector said in the meeting that the meeting will be organized under the chairmanship of Rajeev with the participation of the local body presidents.

District Panchayat President Ullas Thomas said the meeting could be held with the participation of local bodies before activating the RRT and ward level committees and starting DDCs.

There have been complaints of overcrowding in malls and supermarkets. The Collector directed the sectoral magistrates and the police to take care to reduce congestion in these places. The Collector also directed to expedite the vaccination of children and booster dose vaccination.

District Medical Officer (Health) Dr. V.S. Jayasree informed. The district medical officer said that the Mattancherry hospital has been set up only for pregnant women who are Kovid positive.

Kovid can apply for funding

The families of those who died due to Kovid can apply for Kovid financial assistance. The application can be submitted by entering the Death Declaration Document Number. D. M. A signed certificate is not required. Detailed information on Death Declaration Document is available at https://covid19.kerala.gov.in/deathinfo. The application can be submitted to the respective Village Offices or Akshaya Centers.
