CPI (M) Tripura state secretary Gautam Das passes away Kerala | Deshabhimani

Kolkata: CPI (M) Tripura state secretary and central committee member Gautam Das has passed away. He died at a private hospital in Kolkata. Gautam Das, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Agartala for Kovid, was shifted to a hospital in Kolkata due to serious illness. He was airlifted to Kolkata on September 6 by air ambulance. The condition worsened Wednesday night and he was pronounced dead at 7 a.m. today

Gautam Das, 70, entered politics through the student movement. Joined the party in 1971. He has held various positions in the student body. He became a member of the Party State Committee in 1985. In 1994 he became a member of the Secretariat and in 2015 he became a member of the Central Committee. He became the founding editor of Desher Katha, the party’s front page newspaper in Tripura.

He remained in that position until March 2015. Desher Katha was founded in 1979. Gautam Das was instrumental in making it one of the leading newspapers in the state.
