According to the police on the 22nd, it was reported that incontinence shorter than an adult’s finger was found in the pillar of the outer wall of the building about an hour before the collapse at the construction site of Hwajeong I-Park Building 201, Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, according to the police. The point where the incontinence was discovered is known as the part that connects the rail-integrated system (RCS) foam and formwork.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the police have started to verify the facts. Police judged that the degree of crack was insignificant and that it was far from the location of the collapse, so the direct relationship was not significant. However, we plan to start an additional investigation into whether there has been a prior report on cracks and whether measures have been taken to ensure the safety of workers.
Earlier, on the 11th, at the construction site of Hwajeong I-Park in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, some of the 23rd to 38th floors of a 39-story building collapsed like dominoes. In the process, contact with six workers who were working on the interior was lost. On the 14th, one person was found dead on the first basement floor, but the whereabouts of the remaining five are unknown. On the 17th, HDC Group Chairman Chung Mong-gyu resigned to take responsibility for the incident.
Currently, at the accident site, the tower crane dismantling work is continuing for the second day in fear of further collapse. A 140-meter-tall tower crane leaning toward the collapsed building has been cited as a risk factor for overturning. The accident management and integrated countermeasures headquarters explained that more than 70% of tower crane dismantling was completed. When the dismantling is over, the missing person formula, which was temporarily suspended, will resume.
