[시사포커스 / 이근우 기자] Cristiano Ronaldo (37, Manchester United) damaged a fan’s cell phone has been turned over to a police investigation.

The American sports media ‘Sports Illustrated’ announced on the 10th (local time), “As a new video was released, the Merseyside Police authorities in the UK are investigating the allegation that Ronaldo struck a fan in the case of cell phone damage.”

Earlier, Manchester United lost 1-0 to Everton in the English Premier League during the 2021-2022 season. After Ronaldo couldn’t contain his anger and threw the ball, he left the stadium and passed the tunnel to the locker room, hitting a fan’s cell phone and falling to the floor, damaging the screen.

Afterwards, Ronaldo apologized on his Instagram and said he would invite him to Old Trafford. It seemed that Manchester United did not take any disciplinary action for Ronaldo’s apology and the situation was over. However, the police officers had a different idea.

Merseyside Police said they received a report that a boy had been assaulted by an away player as Ronaldo was leaving the stadium.

In the original video, it was known that Ronaldo was damaged by hitting a boy fan’s cell phone, but later the boy fan had autism, and a photo of the back of his hand being bruised by Ronaldo was released. The boy’s mother, Sarah Kelly, reported the incident to the police.

Merseyside Police are gathering as many witnesses and evidence as possible. In the end, it is expected that Ronaldo’s cell phone damage case may not end simply as property damage.
