“The Hwaseong Western Police Station made an urgent request for the vehicle. The person in the back seat was the voice phishing collector, so they asked me to check and arrest him…”

Three hours ago, this man in his 50s took a taxi from Yongsan Station in Seoul to Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do.

I asked the taxi driver, “I will go back to Seoul after meeting a person and receiving the documents, so please wait for 10 minutes.”

“I haven’t met you yet.”

This man returned after an hour had passed.

In fact, it was a collection book for a voice phishing scam organization that pretended to be a bank, and met a scam victim on Mars and was handed 44.5 million won in cash.

The victim in his 50s, who realized it was a scam 30 minutes later, immediately reported it to the police and gave the taxi license plate number he had remembered.

“(After receiving the police officer’s phone call) I was shocked. How should I do this? As I thought about it, I thought of the Nakseongdae District in the direction from Seoul National University to Sadang-dong.”

The man caught after a joint operation between the police and taxi driver is known to have stated that he “only worked part-time, carrying documents.”

Police returned the confiscated cash to the victim and are pursuing other voice phishing gang members.
