Daejeon Hana Citizen has been unbeaten for 5 games in a row and continues the ‘promotional blast’.

Daejeon won 3-2 against FC Seoul in the 5th round of Hana League 1 QK 1 2023 held at Daejeon World Cup Stadium on the 1st. With this, Daejeon came second in the K-League with 3 wins, 2 draws and 0 losses (11 points).

Daejeon drove hard from the first half. In the 14th minute of the first half, Thiago’s shot hit Seoul defender Osmar and led to an own goal, and 6 minutes later Lee Jin-hyun’s corner kick was headed in by Jo Yoo-min, rattling the net.

Seoul’s counterattack was also formidable. In the 24th minute of the first half, Ilyuchenko received a corner kick from Ki Sung-yueng with his head and scored a goal, and 5 minutes into the second half, Na Sang-ho scored a mid-range shot to return the game to square one.

However, at the end of the game, the back judges showed their strength. Kim In-kyun cut through the left flank and crossed, and Martha took a reckless move and put her right foot to score the first goal of the season and win.

Coach Lee Min-seong said, “I am grateful that the team members passed the difficult obstacle well. The three points won by the players are doing well,” he said.

In addition to the game against Seoul, Daejeon has performed well in other games, showing an attitude that is not like a promoted team.

Starting with a win against Gangwon FC, the opening match on February 26, a draw against Incheon United and Pohang Steelers, and a win against Suwon Samsung Bluewings, they are showing an unbeaten streak of five games. What is more encouraging is that the return of Ju Se-jong, the key player in Daejeon’s midfield, is imminent. Joo Se-jong was diagnosed with an orbital fracture after being hit in the face by Kim Dong-min during a match against Incheon on the 4th of last month. Joo Se-jong is expected to play in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar wearing a protective face mask worn by Son Heung-min.

Coach Lee Min-seong predicted on the 1st, “Joo Se-jong started training and will train with the team next week.”

Daejeon will play the 6th round of the K-League against Suwon FC at 3:00pm on the 9th at Suwon Sports Complex.
