As rumors spread that the lockdown period will be extended in Shanghai, China, which has been in full lockdown since the 28th, citizens are starting to stock up on daily necessities, the BBC reported on the 30th (local time).

On the 27th, the Shanghai Municipal Government announced that the Pudong area would be closed for four days from the morning of the 28th, and the Posi area would be completely closed from the 1st of the following month for four days.

Since then, rumors spread that the lockdown period may be extended, causing a hoarding phenomenon. Citizens flock to various supermarkets and sweep away daily necessities such as food and toilet paper.

The streets of Huangpu, Jing’an, and Xuhui, which are the heart of Poxi, are lined with citizens trying to enter the supermarket. Because there are too many customers, the store is only allowing a limited number of people to enter at a time.
