K-League 2 Gyeongnam FC defeated Gimcheon Sangmu 2-0 and regained the top spot in the league.

On the 2nd at 1:30 pm in the 5th round of ‘Hanawon QK League 2 2023’ held at Gimcheon Sports Complex in Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam won 2-0 thanks to consecutive goals from Glayson and Lee Jun-jae.

Gyeongnam, who continued their unbeaten run of 3 wins, 2 draws (11 points) in 5 games since the opening, regained the top of the standings ahead of Anyang (3 wins, 2 draws) on goal difference.

Featuring players at national team level, Sangmu Kim Cheon was regarded as the ‘absolute top 1’ this season, but Gyeongnam led the game that day.

Gyeongnam pushed their opponent hard from the start and did not hide their strong will for 3 points. Gyeongnam took advantage of the gap in the breathing of the Gimcheon defense line in the early stages to heat up the attack, and Gleyson (Season 2) scored the first goal in the 14th minute of the first half. In a set-piece situation, Park Min-kyu’s cross crossed the height of the opponent’s defender, and Glayson kicked accurately after catching him in the chest, rattling the opponent’s net.

Kim Cheon, who scored the opening goal at home, tried to equalize through the toe of Jo Young-wook, but the accurate finish was disappointing.

Gyeongnam Miranjingya and Kimcheon Kwon put Chang-hoon in the 28th minute, respectively, aiming to turn the tide. Right before the end of the first half, after a corner kick, Gleyson’s powerful header was caught by goalkeeper Shin Song-Hun’s save, and Gyeongnam missed the chance to run away.

In the second half, coach Seol Ki-hyeon ordered a tactical change, replacing Miranjingya and Kim Bum-yong with Lee Kang-hee and Cho Sang-jun in the 17th minute.

In the 22nd minute, from a set piece in Gimcheon, Kwon Chang-hoon fired a lightning-like mid-range shot, but Gyeongnam goalkeeper Go Dong-min blocked it with a brilliant save.

Five minutes later, Kwon Chang-hoon tried another shot, but it didn’t lead to a goal.

As Kim Cheon’s attack intensified, Gyeongnam opted to bench two foreign players, Glayson and Castro, to stabilize the defense.

After that, Kim Cheon shot at the Gyeongnam goal several more times, but general luck did not follow, such as hitting the crossbar and bouncing off the field.

Gyeongnam, exposed to a wave of Kimcheon attacks, scored an extra goal with one counterattack.

In the 44th minute of the second half, in a counterattack situation, Lee Jun-jae (Season 1) set a wedge for the team’s victory with a powerful shot after dribbling.
