Sonide’s subsidiary, Defense Korea, has announced its joint participation with Polish state research institute, Łukasiewicz PIAP, in MSPO 2023, Poland’s largest defense industry exhibition. Celebrating its 31st year, MSPO is ranked as the third largest defense exhibition in Europe, after those held in Paris and London. The event, which opened on the 5th, will take place in Kielce, Poland, over a period of four days until the 8th. This year, Korea has a significant role as a Lead Nation, with official sponsorship from the Polish Ministry of Defense and Polish national defense group, ‘PGZ’.
New Collaborations and Showcasing Advanced Technology
Łukasiewicz PIAP will exhibit advanced robots and a range of defense equipment. Additionally, Defense Korea will showcase an optical nanosensor explosive detector. The highlight of their joint display is the explosive detection and mine removal robot, a result of their collaborative efforts. Equipped with a recoilless rifle and the Defense Korea explosive detector, the multipurpose robot developed by Łukasiewicz PIAP promises to capture attention.
Strengthening the Partnership
Defense Korea foresees that their participation in MSPO 2023 will further enhance the cooperative relationship between the two companies. In a significant development, Defense Korea recently signed an exclusive partner contract with Łukasiewicz PIAP. This agreement enables Defense Korea to negotiate, execute contracts, and provide maintenance services in Korea, bolstering the offset trade between Korea and Poland.
Future Plans and Expansion into Asian Market
Looking ahead, the two companies have ambitious plans. They aim to establish a comprehensive center in Korea, bringing together robot assembly and manufacturing plants with service centers. Furthermore, Łukasiewicz PIAP is eager to expand its presence in the Asian market. As part of this strategy, joint investment will lead to the opening of a robot showroom in Seoul’s Gangnam district, where large multi-purpose robots (IBIS) will be showcased. Equipped with explosives disposal accessories, such as a recoilless water gun, an explosives detector, and a mobile X-ray machine, these robots demonstrate the cutting-edge capabilities of the two companies.
Positive Outlook for Defense Industry Collaboration
Joong-Gun Oh, CEO of Sonide, expresses optimism about the potential for mutually beneficial collaboration between Poland and Korea in the defense industry. He notes the increasing possibility of the Polish government purchasing excellent defense products from Poland as a condition for acquiring Korean military equipment. This presents an opportunity for Defense Korea to garner attention and thrive in the market.
