With the local elections approaching in about two months, the atmosphere within the Democratic Party is divided over Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, the two biggest winners.

In Gyeonggi-do, the political base of former Gyeonggi governor Lee Jae-myung, votes were issued one after another, while in Seoul, a debate arose over the election of Song Young-gil as the former president amidst a character struggle.

Reporter Hyo-Jeong Nam reported.

Rep. Jo Jung-sik, who got off at Siheung, Gyeonggi-do and held a 5th term, announced his candidacy for Gyeonggi Governor with the support of about 30 people including members of the Gyeonggi Party.

“Gyeonggi shooter! Victory Jo Jung-sik! Jo Jung-sik!”

Rep. Cho, who used to be the general manager of the Lee Jae-myung camp last year, emphasized that he was a ‘pro-Lee Jae-myung-gye chair’ and “a suitable person to succeed Lee Jae-myung.”

“(I am Lee Jae-myung) is a true comrade. I will make Gyeonggi-do the number one political and economic district by inheriting the values, philosophy, achievements and achievements of Jae-Myeong Lee.”

Rep. Ahn Min-seok, who also won a fifth term in Osan, Gyeonggi-do, declared himself an ‘old friend of Lee Jae-myung’ and announced his candidacy three days later.

He also secretly checked his rival, Rep. Cho.

“There seems to be no objection to the need for a strong and breakthrough leadership like Lee Jae-myung rather than a good scholar.”

Competition is in full swing in Gyeonggi-do, where Lee Jae-myung had 460,000 votes ahead of the presidential election, with Mayor Yeom Tae-young, the third mayor of Suwon, and former senior political affairs chief Choi Jae-seong also considering running for office.

On the other hand, in Seoul, the character difficulty is increasing.

With the disappearance of a heavyweight candidate, such as only re-elected lawmaker Park Ju-min considering running for office, some in the party are raising the idea of hiring Song Young-gil, the former president of the party, who has led the deregulation of real estate regulations.

However, the theory of checks is not easy, as former lawmaker Woo Sang-ho, who declared that he would not run for office, refusing to take responsibility for the loss of the presidential election, immediately refuted it.

“Still, within the Democratic Party, I owe a bit of heart to former President Song. He really devoted himself to this election process…”

[우상호/더불어민주당 의원(TBS ‘김어준의 뉴스공장’)]

“There is no case in which a leader who has stepped down after taking responsibility for the loss of a major election in history is not running for a strategic nomination in the very next election.”

Another variable outside the party is New Wave CEO Kim Dong-yeon.

While Chairman Kim is also known to be contemplating running for governor of Gyeonggi or mayor of Seoul, the non-captain of the Democratic Party has officially proposed to Kim to start discussing affiliation.
