Lee Jae-myung’s ‘batch resignation’ after demand for renewal due to stagnant approval ratings… A new organization will be formed

Members of the Democratic Party of Korea who held major positions resigned from their party positions today (24th). All seats were vacated when criticism poured in that the Election Countermeasures Committee was bloated and not agile.

Yoon Kwan-seok, secretary-general of the Democratic Party, held a press conference and said, “With the heart of the elected heir, we have gathered together the will to resign.” Key officials including President Yoon, Park Wan-joo, Policy Committee Chairman, Dong-su Yoo, Vice Chairman of the Policy Committee, Ko Yong-jin, Senior Spokesperson, and Strategic Planning Committee Chairman Song Gap-seok, have resigned.

The background of the collective resignation is the demand for renewal due to the low approval rating. President Yoon explained, “The approval rating (of the presidential candidates) has also stagnated. “I thought it was appropriate to go back to the beginning and resign from the duty to broaden my judgment,” he said.

It is evaluated that it lightened the burden of Candidate Jae-myung Lee and CEO Song Young-gil, who form the new election organization. However, within the party, Chairman Song Young-gil is also cited as the cause of the stagnant approval rating.

However, President Yoon said that Song Young-gil’s resignation was not considered. President Yoon said, “The party leader must gather all his party powers and run to win the presidential election.” The Office of the House of Representatives and the Secretariat of the Party Representative also did not resign in consideration of the continuity of their work.
