On the 17th, one day before presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung’s attendance at the Gyeonggi state audit, the Democratic Party launched a task force (TF) related to the Daejang-dong development preference and a task force alleging accusation. Within the party, there are voices that it is important for Candidate Lee, who chose to break through the controversy over Daejang-dong, to calmly explain the allegations without getting caught up in the opposition and opposition parties.
On the same day, the Democratic Party held the launching ceremony of the ‘Hwacheon Daeyu Engineering & Construction Corruption Fact Investigation TF’ and the ‘Fact Investigation TF of Conflict in the National Flag’ one after another at the National Assembly and started full-fledged activities. The two TFs were created with the purpose of responding at the party level to the allegations of rioting surrounding Candidate Lee and the alleged indictment of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, a powerful presidential candidate for the people’s power. The first operation of the task force on this day even though it was a holiday is interpreted as the intention to fully defend Candidate Lee, who is going to the Gyeonggi National Inspectorate of the National Assembly Administrative Safety Committee the next day.
The Democratic Party defended Lee in relation to the allegation of Jangdong-dong, emphasizing it as a ‘people’s power gate’. Song Young-gil, CEO of the ‘Hwacheon Daeyu Engineering & Construction Corruption Investigation Task Force’ meeting, said, “This case is an incident where the media, legal, and political forces that created a community of interests and the civil society were fighting over the possessions of thieves. The results of how hard they worked are showing up one by one.”
CEO Song also said, “If the Central Investigation Department of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in 2011 investigated the illegal loan case in Daejang-dong in principle, it would have been able to prevent the means of hoarding land in Daejang-dong in advance.” Section 2 is now making excuses for why the Daejang-dong illegal loan case was excluded from the investigation, but an accurate investigation is needed.”
At the meeting of the ‘Fact-Finding Task Force on the Confessor’s Flag Disorder’, CEO Song said, “The Korean prosecution organization was privately organized and destroyed.”
Tension is also sensed within the Democratic Party, which has put forth all-out defense of candidate Lee ahead of the Gyeonggi National Inspection. This is because, in effect, a ‘hearing of presidential candidates’ is held within a week of Lee winning the primary. Previously, the Democratic Party’s leadership opposed Lee’s attendance at the National Assembly, fearing that it would damage the candidate.
There are voices within the party that Lee’s attitude to aggressively refute and explain is the key to the Gyeonggi Provincial Inspectorate. “The power of the people will continue to inflate the suspicion and induce the candidate to make mistakes,” said an official from the Democratic Party’s floor leadership in a telephone conversation with a reporter on the same day. I need to do it,” he said. Rep. Han Jung-jin said on the phone, “We need to break the suspicion of ‘what is not there?’ by honestly explaining things that people still do not understand.”
In an interview with MBN broadcast on the same day, Song also said, “I asked candidate Lee, ‘No matter how much opposition lawmakers attack, please come with an attitude of kindly explain to the people.’ “Do it,” he said. On the 18th, the day of the Gyeonggi National Inspection, Rep. Min Hyung-bae, who served as the head of the strategy headquarters for the candidate’s camp, resigned from the political affairs committee, and Park Chan-dae, who was the chief spokesperson for the camp, was appointed as Rep. Lee Hyung-seok, who was unable to attend due to his father’s death, and strengthened the defense line.
