In Denmark, where Omicron is experiencing a nationwide spread, a mutant virus was also detected in sewers on the 7th (local time), Bloomberg News reported.

The Danish government believes that Omicron is no longer limited to a specific infection route and is spreading nationwide, and plans to announce a new quarantine policy on the 8th at local time.

According to the Serum Institute of Denmark (SSI), there were 398 confirmed cases of Omicron in Denmark as of today, an increase of 137 from the previous day.

In Denmark, Omicron infection started with two people arriving from South Africa on the 28th of last month, and it is spreading across the country in 10 days.

In particular, large-scale events such as concerts and Christmas parties due to With Corona became a catalyst for the spread of Omicron, but it is analyzed that tracing the infection route is meaningless any longer.

Denmark’s health authorities said today that for the first time, the Omicron virus was detected in sewers, and that initial strategies to contain Omicron appear to be of no avail.

Now, 90% of new Omicron infections are local, not imported. Authorities believe that Omicron is no longer limited to a specific infection route and is spreading nationwide.

“The Omicron infection is now spreading across the country,” Danish Patient Safety Authority Commissioner Annette Lykke Petri told reporters today, Reuters reported.

“The use of additional resources to shut down Omicron is no longer having a proportional effect,” said Soren Brostom, director of the Danish Health Agency, at a press conference in Copenhagen.

In addition to the spread of Omicron, Denmark is currently experiencing a third epidemic with the highest total number of confirmed cases. According to Worldometer, an international statistics site, there were 7,146 and 6,324 new confirmed cases in the past two days, respectively. On the same day, there were also 10 and 9 deaths. It is still the delta mutation that is leading the third wave.

Even Denmark’s health minister, Mangnus Heunike, has tested positive for COVID-19 and is self-isolating at a hotel in Brussels, Belgium. He said he was diagnosed with the virus after visiting Brussels to attend an EU meeting, but had not had contact with the EU delegation or other ministers.

In the midst of this, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is scheduled to hold a press conference on the 8th local time and announce a new quarantine regulation policy.
