People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are more than double the risk of emergency hospitals. People with a depression score of 4 to 7 were involved in the Anxiety Scale and Hospital Depression (HADS) with 2.8 times more hospital emergency admissions, compared to a reference group with no depression evidence. Those with a depression score of 8 or over were involved with 4.8 times more of the hospital emergency admissions.
