Choo Kyung-ho, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance, said on the 19th, “We will minimize the increase in electricity and gas prices, which is aggravated by the surge in international energy prices, through self-rescue efforts.”

Deputy Prime Minister Choo hinted at the possibility of an increase in electricity and gas rates in his speech at the first emergency economy ministers meeting held at the government complex in Seoul on the same day.

However, Deputy Prime Minister Chu said, “In principle, central and local public utilities such as railroad, postal, water and sewerage will be kept as stable as possible in the second half of the year.”

He said, “The government will put the stability of consumer prices at the top of its economic policy and will mobilize all available policy tools. In principle, public institutions and local governments will absorb factors that increase cost as much as possible through management efficiency,” he emphasized.
