Serious riots and disturbances after 12 midnight, including the launching of fireworks. Constant flow of vehicles at high speed without control, and a low presence of collective locomotion for fear of being a victim of crime. And a perimeter that, in recent years, has become a veritable dump without the authorities taking action on the matter.

This is the reality of the La Gonzalina sector, in the Rancagua commune, where the High Security Prison was installed more than 17 years ago, which according to many people and, according to its own statistics, is considered one of the the most dangerous prisons in the country. As an example, in 2021 alone, more than 700 acts of violence took place inside it, making clashes between rival groups constant and causing more than one death.

For the same reason, and after meeting with the residents of the sector where the Rancagua prison is located, and listening to all the problems that they are experiencing as a result of the same situation, the deputy for the O’Higgins Region and one of the members of The Family Commission of the Lower House, Natalia Romero, decided to request an urgent meeting with the new Minister of Justice, Luis Cordero, which finally materialized in recent days in the Valparaíso Congress.

According to what the parliamentarian explained, in said meeting she was able to raise with the minister the serious situations with which the residents of the sector must live, such as the lack of public locomotion, the constant presence of relatives and friends of the inmates in the perimeter of jail and even the disorders that are generated at midnight when one of them is released.

“What is happening in the La Gonzalina sector is absolutely serious, because it shows the abandonment and carelessness that has existed with this area for years. It is clear that any place where a prison is installed and built, especially a high-security one like the one in Rancagua, will cause a series of negative externalities around it, but here, unfortunately, the authorities never bothered to offer them an alternative. real and concrete for the neighbors who have had to live with all this”, questioned the deputy Romero.

Along these lines, and after being consulted about the details of the meeting she held with the new head of the Ministry of Justice, the representative of District 15 specified that “we had a very good reception on her part because she promised to start a working group with all the neighbors.

“This week I had the opportunity to raise with the Minister of Justice all the problems suffered by the residents of the La Gonzalina sector. I even told him that when the inmates are released after midnight, there is practically a party on the outskirts of the prison, where fireworks are launched for several hours. And for this reason, I highly appreciate that the minister has promised to start a working group together with all the neighbors to get to know these problems in depth, especially to find concrete solutions for the next bidding process that this prison will experience ”, explained Deputy Romero, who also promised to continue with her efforts until the Ministry of Justice complies with everything agreed.

“This is a first step, but a very significant one, because until now the residents of that sector had never been heard by any authority. And what they are looking for is simply to improve their living conditions, not continue being locked up in their own homes and that the boys and girls can go out and play in the street without fear of being a victim of crime,” said the O’Higgins representative. .

CONSERVATIVE OF DOÑIHUE

But in addition to exposing the situation experienced by the residents of the Rancagua prison, Deputy Romero also took advantage of the meeting with the minister to explain another situation in the area, this time related to the Real Estate Registrar (CBR) of Doñihue commune.

In this regard, the parliamentarian warned about the “terrible service” that the neighbors themselves have made her see on different occasions. Specifically, they denounce long waiting times, the lack of response from those who attend the place, the absence of bathrooms for the public and the lack of computer systems that allow residents to carry out a series of procedures automatically.

“Lately, it is no longer just a neighbor who has made us see the terrible service provided by the Doñihue Real Estate Registrar, but there are several who agree that waiting times are excessive, that facilities are lacking for the public and that, even, some have received mistreatment when they require some attention”, alerted the deputy Romero, who explained that for some time to date the CBR does not have a tenured curator, being subrogated by a interim official, and who also contemplates the attention of the communes of Coltauco and Coinco, for which she warned that “the problem goes far beyond Doñihue.”

The deputy even gave an account of a letter that the Judicial Division of the Ministry of Justice sent to the Rancagua Court of Appeals in recent days, where they indicated that “some complaints that exist regarding the Conservative of Doñihue have been taken note of “. adding that “the complaints would be related to excessive collection of tariffs, poor service to users and serious deficiencies in the facilities where the aforementioned trade operates.” Previously, the representative of O’Higgins had also officiated at the ministry as a result of the same situation.

For the same reason, after exposing him about the case, the parliamentarian announced that Minister Cordero promised to speed up the appointment of the new Real Estate Registrar for April.

“We hope that in the coming weeks a conservative will be appointed as a head and all these problems that the residents of the three communes are experiencing are resolved, because no one deserves undignified treatment as they are receiving,” concluded Deputy Romero.
