Palakkad: A lorry caught fire after a diesel tank exploded on the National Highway at Alathur, Palakkad. The locals immediately intervened and stopped the fire, thus averting a major accident. The fire broke out on Thursday evening.
Two units of the fire brigade reached the spot and put out the fire completely. A lorry carrying goods from Perumbavoor to Bangalore burst into flames at Alathur.
No one was injured in the incident. Seeing the fire spreading, the driver and the cleaner ran away and escaped. Diesel spread on the road and set fire to a tree on the roadside. Efforts are underway to replace the lorry crane in the middle of the road to remove the traffic obstruction on the national highway.
