Director Yeon Sang-ho mentioned the possibility of ‘Hell’ being presented on a different platform and method.

Director Yeon Sang-ho said in an interview with Netflix’s original ‘Hell’ on the 25th, “The beginning of ‘Hell’ is a webtoon.

‘Hell’ is a story about a supernatural phenomenon in which people are sentenced to hell by the messengers of hell who appeared without notice, and the religious organization Saejinrihoe, which was revived from this chaos, and those trying to uncover the truth of the incident are intertwined.

Director Yeon has been serializing ‘Hell’ with writer Choi Gyu-seok of ‘Awl’ on Naver Webtoon since January 2019 prior to ‘Hell’, which was released through Netflix on the 19th. Episodes 1 to 3 of ‘Hell’ contain the story of season 1 of the webtoon, and episodes 4 through 6 of season 2.

Regarding the different endings of the webtoon and the series, director Yeon said, “The decision to produce the Netflix series was when the webtoon was being serialized. The ending was different,” he said.

In addition, he emphasized that Netflix only has the priority right to film ‘Hell’, and that all IP for the original belongs to director Won and writer Kyu-seok Choi. When asked, “You are a famous director who has already mobilized 10 million viewers, why did you choose Netflix for a way to get more money?”, Director Won said, “When you think about how you can make it as it is, when you think about how it can be made, it will be well implemented. “It was Netflix that I was able to do,” he said.

He added, “Because it is a priority for video production, if Netflix says ‘no’, it can be done elsewhere.”

However, he said, “Netflix is a good platform from a creative standpoint. The advantage is that it is possible to plan more freely because the distribution method is global and there are no restrictions. It’s a new part,” he said.
