An exchange meeting was held with the media workers in Gaibandha with the aim of building a social movement and raising awareness to control tuberculosis.
The meeting was organized by Bangladesh National Tuberculosis Prevention Association (NATB) at Gaibandha Zilla Parishad Auditorium on Monday (March 6) at noon. Gaibandha District Civil Surgeon Abdullahel Mafi spoke as the chief guest.
Nazmul Huda, CVC of Breast Hospital Gaibandha, Khaled Hossain, president of Press Club Gaibandha spoke as special guests under the chairmanship of NATAB’s Gaibandha District President Abdul Latif Akand.
At that time, the speakers said that tuberculosis, spring fever and malaria diseases once spread like epidemics. But as a result of the voluntary efforts of the government and the activities of Natab, the number of patients affected by this disease in the districts and upazilas of the country has reduced a lot. All these diseases are no longer at the stage of fatal diseases. There is no substitute for public awareness to prevent the spread of this disease.
Highlighting the role of media workers in promotion and dissemination, the speakers further said that media workers have more contact with people from the district city to the village level. So they have a leading role in curing tuberculosis. Tuberculosis diagnosis and medicine are provided free of charge.
