It turned out that the Happy House in Dongtan, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, which President Moon Jae-in personally visited and promoted in December last year, has been vacant for 9 months. Prior to President Moon’s visit, the Happy House became a controversy by spending 40 million won on the interior construction of 41 square meters and 44 square meters, respectively.
According to the ‘Status of Public Leases in Hwaseong Dongtan’ received from the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) by Representative Kim Sang-hoon of People’s Strength on the 28th, Hwaseong Dongtan A4-1 visited by President Moon, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi, and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Byun Chang-heum in December of last year. Block public rental types 41A-1 and 44A are still unrented as of the 24th.
It has been 9 months since President Moon’s visit, and if you add up to the period before the visit, there are no residents for more than 1 year and 6 months. As a whole, 49 out of 1,640 households in the complex are vacant. Contrary to what President Moon said at the time of his visit as a good apartment to live in, no prospective tenants have appeared.
In the case of Happy Housing, young people can live for up to 6 years, and newlyweds can live for up to 10 years depending on the number of children. Hwaseong Dongtan A4-1 Type 44 has a maximum deposit of 72 million won and a monthly rent of 270,000 won.
LH has relaxed income and asset standards five times from June 2019 to March of this year in order to exhaust unsold houses, but has not yet received any occupants. Regarding the reason for the vacancy, LH explained, “We cannot know the specific reason due to differences in personal preference.”
