Drones may be used for cloud seeding

Dubai: The UAE is considering using drones for cloud seeding for artificial rainfall. They have been found to be able to accurately identify rain clouds and dispense chemicals.

Chemical compounds are currently sprayed on aircraft. The project will help reduce costs and practical difficulties. The National Weather Service said it was considering the project after successful trials in collaboration with the University of Colorado in the US. 3 drones were used for cloud seeding. The 2 drones were equipped with cloud detection and rain probes.

The third drone dispersed the chemicals. Another advantage is that the mission can be completed more quickly. Magnesium, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride and Liquid Propane are mixed in certain proportions in the clouds.
