B.I (real name Kim Hanbin), a former member of the group iKON, who is accused of using drugs, was sentenced to probation in the first trial.

On the 10th, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Settlement Section 25-3 (with the presiding judge) sentenced B.I to 3 years in prison and 4 years of probation at the sentencing hearing of B.I, who was charged with violating the Narcotics Control Act. In addition, he ordered additional collection of 1.5 million won, 80 hours of community service, and 40 hours of drug treatment lectures.

The court said, “Drug-related crimes are not easy to detect due to their nature, have a high risk of recidivism, and have a very large negative impact on society due to their hallucinations and addictiveness.” He added, “The accused cannot be considered to have committed the crime out of simple curiosity, and the act of dealing with drugs as a celebrity may dilute the awareness of drugs in the general public or adolescents.”

However, the court said, “The reason for sentencing was taking into account the fact that everyone admits and reflects on their wrongdoing, is a first-time offender, and that the parents are also committed to leading the accused, and that they maintain good social ties with family and other people around them.” said

B.I, who met with reporters after the sentencing, said, “I will reflect on my future time and look back,” he said.

Previously, B.I was handed over to trial on charges of purchasing and administering cannabis and narcotic LSD through public informant A in April 2016. Later in 2019, when it became known that he was taking drugs, he withdrew from iKON and also terminated his exclusive contract with his agency YG Entertainment.

Meanwhile, Yang Hyun-suk, the former CEO of YG Entertainment, was handed over to trial on charges of trying to subvert the investigation by convincing and threatening A when B.I was accused of using drugs. Yang’s former representative has completely denied the allegations.
