“Drunk”… People in their 40s lit a flag at the incense burner in the Itaewon disaster

The Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 2nd that they are investigating a 40-year-old man A who has not been detained on charges of setting fire to a flag related to the Itaewon disaster.

Person A is suspected of lighting a banner with the phrase ‘Guide to the Incense Office for Itaewon Accident Victims’ placed in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung-si around 10:20pm the previous day with a detonator.

As a result, around 30 cm of the lower part of the flag was lost.

After receiving a witness report at 10:40pm on the same day, the police identified A as a suspect through a nearby CCTV video.

Person A is said to have stated, “I’m drunk and I don’t remember well.”
