The law easing the liquor ban was introduced and passed in the Bihar Assembly yesterday.
If the new law comes into force, first-time arrestees can get bail from a magistrate if they pay a fine. If he does not pay the fine, he faces up to a month in jail. In the last six months, 60 people have died in alcohol poisoning. The apex court had ruled that Bihar judges did not have time to hear other cases as cases related to liquor ban were piling up.
