Earthquake shocks in Chaman, 3 people died

Earthquake tremors were felt in Balochistan’s Chaman area and surrounding areas along the Pak-Afghan border, as a result of which 3 children were killed and 5 people including women were injured.

Officials say that the tremors of the earthquake that hit the mountainous region at around 10 pm were also felt in Qila Abdullah, Gulistan, Pashin and many other areas of Chaman district.

Assistant Commissioner Chaman Naveed Alam said that an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred in the border district of Chaman at around 10 pm, which shook the city.

He said that 3 children of a family died due to the collapse of the roof and walls of the house located in the bypass area on the outskirts of the town due to the tremors of the earthquake. Cracks appeared in the walls of houses and buildings.

However, no further loss of life was reported from the areas where the tremors were felt.

As soon as the loss of life and property was reported, the local administration reached Balochistan with Levies and relief workers.

Hospital officials said that we have found dead bodies of 3 children aged between 8 to 12 years and 5 injured including 2 women. The seriously injured have been sent to Quetta Hospital for treatment.

Locals claimed that the authorities were not aware of the collapsed houses and other damages till late night and the local administration was informed about the damages by the hospital.

According to the report, earthquake tremors were also felt in Qila Abdullah district and other areas, but no loss of life or property was reported.

Spokesperson Chief Minister Balochistan Babar Yousafzai said immediate assistance was provided to the affected family, levies were alerted in the earthquake-affected areas and residents were advised to be careful as the mud houses have already been affected due to recent rains.
