Education Minister Park Soon-ae, there was another ‘submission ban’

I reported last week that Minister of Education Park Soon-ae, who published a plagiarism thesis while a professor, was also disciplined to ban submission to a society.

As a result of the MBC coverage, the same plagiarism and ‘submission ban’ were confirmed again.

The notice is written on the back of the journal of the Korean Political Science Association published in March 2012.

“The publication of Professor Park Soon-ae’s thesis published in 2002 will be withdrawn, and the application for publication will be prohibited for the next three years.”

The reason is that “The thesis must be original, unpublished, but Professor Park violated this principle.”

Following the double publication of the 2011 Korean Public Administration Association papers reported by MBC last week and the ‘ban on submission’ disciplinary action, the same violation of research ethics was discovered at the same time by the Political Science Association.

“It’s a problem for a professor who plagiarizes to become the Minister of Education. Because he put something suspicious of plagiarism in our journal and damaged the reputation of the journal…”

The Political Science Association judged that Minister Park submitted a Korean translation of his former doctoral dissertation from an American university when he was a professor at Soongsil University.

As a result of the political society review at that time, the overlap rate was 67%, and more than 10 pages out of 15 pages were filled with similar content.

Minister Park explained, “We voluntarily withdrew the doctoral thesis in English, recognizing that it could be a problem even if it was published in another academic journal in Korean.”

However, he did not disclose the reason for the belated report, which was 10 years after the publication of the thesis.

In particular, when he was appointed as a professor at Seoul National University in 2004, two years after the thesis was published, he did not comment on allegations that the thesis in question was submitted as research results.

“As a scholar, it is a very shameful disposition, and what a disgraceful disposition to ‘ban posting’.

The opposition is expected to put pressure on the future by putting various allegations of Minister Park Soon-ae in front of the parliamentary government question.

MBC Exploration Planning will report on additional suspicions surrounding Minister Park’s clarification, along with detailed information such as the ban on paper submissions on the 31st.
