(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Seung-wook = Chinese and Russian military aircraft entered the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ) on the 6th and then left.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said on the 6th, “From 11:52 am to 1:49 pm, four Chinese military aircraft and four Russian military aircraft entered and exited the South Sea and East Sea KADIZ in succession, and we there was no attack on airspace.”

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said, “Our military identified Chinese and Russian military aircraft even before they entered KADIZ, and implemented tactical measures to prepare for emergencies by using Air Force fighter jets.”

An air defense identification zone (ADIZ) is an arbitrary line established to identify and respond early to military aircraft approaching its own airspace.

However, it is international practice for military aircraft entering another country’s air defense identification zone to submit a flight plan to the country in advance and notify the location on entry.

Previously, on the 6th, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense announced through the official WeChat channel (the Chinese version of KakaoTalk), “China and Russia conducted the 6th joint strategic air patrol in the airspace involving the East Sea and the East China Sea on the 6th based on the annual cooperation plan between the militaries of the two countries,” he said.

Meanwhile, there have been many cases where China and Russia have sent military aircraft to KADIZ under the pretext of joint patrols or joint training. Almost, in May and November last year, Chinese and Russian military aircraft entered KADIZ and then departed.

In January alone, two Chinese military aircraft entered the KADIZ in southwest Yeodo and then departed.
