Cairo: Oldest mummy found in Egypt The oldest mummy, called “Hekasheps,” was discovered during excavations near the Step Pyramids, 19 miles from Cairo.

The mummy was found completely covered in gold. Along with this, the researchers found many stone statues, shields, stone vessels, tools for everyday use, pottery, statues of gods etc.

It is believed that the mummy belongs to Khumdijedf, a priest who was in charge of the nobles during the reign of Unas, pharaoh of the Fifth Dynasty.

Sahi Hawass, the former minister of antiquities in Egypt and who is now the head of the research team, said that this mummy, which is around four thousand three hundred years old, is the oldest discovered so far.
